We live in a world of chemicals, some naturally occurring and some manufactured, and many such as antibiotics, necessary for our well-being. It is also a world of stress and turmoil from time to time, and in that state we often look to some of those chemicals to provide a shortcut to feeling better. In fact, many of the chemicals “work” for at least a short time we feel better, more alive, and happier.

So what is the problem? The problem is real and has many levels:

- All drugs have potentially undesirable and dangerous side effects.

- All drugs can be abused, overused, used destructively.

- All mind-altering chemicals can cause dependence (psychological or physical), and many can lead to serious addictive disorders.

- Chemicals never solved anyone’s problems.

- Even if chemicals work for a while, the effects are always short-lived and can become a crutch. Even if they make us feel better, they fool us into believing the we cannot do without them, and worse, that we cannot solve our problems on our own.

Some say that marijuana is dangerous and addictive, others not. Some say it is as addictive as cocaine. Unfortunately all are wrong. Marijuana, a potentially destructive substance, is not addictive. Cocaine, an extremely destructive substance, is definitely addictive. Has this confused you? Let me try to clarify.

An addictive substance is one that causes the cells of the body to develop an actual physiological need for the drug, which must be taken in increasing doses to produce the same physical and emotional effect, and, finally, that causes a severe and potentially dangerous bodily reaction when it is abruptly stopped in an addicted individual (abstinence syndrome). Substances that do not meet all these criteria are not considered addictive.

However they can still be dangerous. Marijuana causes some physical changes and can develop a kind of psychological dependency in certain vulnerable and needy individuals. These people become apathetic and withdrawn, and their schoolwork and relationships can suffer. Cocaine is one of the most destructive substances around and is very expensive. It induces an extraordinary craving and dependence in many susceptible users. It creates the illusion of well-being and power while providing just the opposite.

In fact, all of these (and other) drugs, when abused, allow the user to escape from a painful reality in an unrealistic and ultimately destructive way.

Gynecomastia can be induced by a number of causes. There is a widespread belief that use of Marijuana can bring about the onset of Gynecomastia. How well founded is this belief?

Gynecomastia, or as it is commonly known, Man Boobs, is an irregular swelling in the chest area of males. This cosmetic condition can make the male chest look feminine. The emotional ramifications of this condition can be extreme, as little can be done to hide or cover Gynecomastia. It can either be treated to reduce or eliminate, or it can be suffered.

Gynecomastia has a number of causes, ranging from genetic syndromes to an unhealthy diet. One of the most widespread beliefs about this condition is that it can also be brought about by the use of the illegal drug, Marijuana.

Certain studies which were done on animals and humans have been reported to show that Marijuana use reduces levels of the male hormone, Testosterone. This can cause a number of things such as reduced sperm count, a shrinking of the testicles, and the outbreak of Gynecomastia. It indeed stands to reason that as male hormones decrease, the hormonal balance in the male body will shift towards the feminine side which will in turn initiate certain feminization changes in the body, one of which is Gynecomastia.

However, other studies have been unable to duplicate these earlier studies and some claim that the connection between Marijuana use and Gynecomastia is nothing but a myth. Still, you should know that the use of Marijuana bears a number of dangerous side effects which alone should be enough incentive to cease use of this illegal substance. As to the connection between it and Gynecomastia, further study is needed.

Regular smokers of marijuana often report that they remember no dreams while sleeping, and those coming off the drug admit to a virtual flood of dreams in their nightly sleep, but is there any scientific data to back up these claims?

Actually, there may be. Marijuana affects not only your nightly habit of dreaming, but also your ability to recall any thoughts during the night that you are experiencing. This pattern differs greatly when marijuana use is discontinued.

Sleep is one of the most important and fascinating components of our daily lives, necessary for refueling our “batteries” and preparing us for each new day. From a casual perspective, the practice of sleep looks like an entirely passive activity, but research suggests that the brain is hard at work whether we are asleep or awake, and when sleeping this activity often takes the form of dreams.

Sleep researchers tell us that human beings go through several stages of sleep, patterns that are regularly repeated over and over throughout the night. The final stage of sleep, more commonly referred to as rapid eye movement or REM sleep, is the stage where most dreaming takes place and this is the stage that seems to be affected most by marijuana use.

In several different studies involving people currently using marijuana there appeared to be a general reduction in the amount of REM sleep. Conversely, people who had recently stopped using the drug appeared to have much more activity and longer periods of REM sleep. Since dreams usually occur during the REM stage, this seems to indicate that there may indeed be a physiological link between marijuana and dreaming.

If you have recently quit smoking marijuana, you probably didn’t need a scientific study to tell you that the drug affected your dreaming, but you may have wondered why this occurs. The active ingredient in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a depressant, and like all depressants has a numbing effect on the brain. If you regularly use this substance, and make a habit of going to bed “stoned,” the activity in the brain becomes limited, and therefore the amount of dreaming is significantly reduced.

When coming off marijuana, at least for the first few days while your body adjusts, your brain is “waking up” from a long fog and its activity is increased. Consequently, although you may be dreaming no more than a normal sleeper, your dreams seem more frequent and very vivid as you can recall the events more easily.

This change in sleeping patterns is not isolated to marijuana use. Alcoholics and other drug users also report vast changes in their sleeping patterns between when they are drinking or using and when they are detoxifying from their drug of choice.

Fortunately, the changes most people see in both the frequency and vividness of their dreams will typically only last for a few days and possibly up to a few weeks, but if these dreams are interfering with your ability to get a full night of sleep, and you’re waking feeling tired, there are a few things you can try that may help. Among these methods are:

Exercise. Regular strenuous exercise will ensure you go to bed tired and help you get a more restful night of sleep.

Avoid taking naps. If your schedule allows for it, try to avoid taking any midday nap. This will help you sleep better at night.

Go to bed and wake at the same time. Regularization of your sleeping patterns may require you to help it along a bit. Try going to bed at the same time every night and wake at the same time very morning, even if you have to set an alarm.

The changes in your dreams is just one of the many side effects associated with quitting marijuana, but in time, and with a little effort on your part, you’ll be getting back into a healthy pattern before you know it.

Different marijuana addiction treatment programs are available for those who need help. Each year, hundreds or even thousands of people enter rehab programs due to marijuana addiction. But up to this day, many still consider marijuana as a less harmful form of drug. In fact, many believed that it is benign in nature, which explains why programs specifically designed to marijuana abuse are not common. Although marijuana may seem less destructive as compared to other forms of drugs, some medical professionals believe that it can cause psychological addiction especially when used habitually.

Unlike other addiction problems, marijuana abuse is much easier to address. The first thing that a marijuana user needs to do is to understand how the addiction develops. In some studies, it has been shown that marijuana does not create physical dependence, but prolonged indulgence can lead to psychological dependence. Therefore, users should recognize what triggers them to use marijuana.

Apart from that, concerned parties (like family, friends, and relatives) should talk to the marijuana user to seek help. Most users perceive that there is nothing wrong with them, thus, they do not require any kinds of treatment. However, like any drugs, marijuana inflicts damage to the body. They have to understand that continued use of the drug wreaks havoc to the brain, which can result to impaired judgment and perception. Some of the most typical side effects of prolong marijuana use are as follows:

poor concentration

anxiety

paranoia and hallucinations

bloodshot or red eyes

extreme irritability

slow reaction time

decreased body coordination

nausea

rapid lung destruction and breathing problems

Once they have recognized that they really need help, it will be easier for them to overcome the control their binges. They also have to enroll in a marijuana addiction treatment program (usually outpatient rehab services) to help them cope and fully manage their addiction problems!

The recent discovery of the second largest doctors group in the U.S. on the therapeutic effects of marijuana for AIDS and cancer patients will certainly create a debate whether Washington will openly accept the proposal for its public consumption.

The American College of Physicians has proposed the viability of marijuana for medical purposes. It said that better medicines and treatments can be taken from the long-standing prohibited plant according to the recent studies conducted.

It is currently urging the federal government to lift the ban for its possible use to a wider scale of medical applications. The group cited that marijuana promises better treatments among AIDS patients who are suffering from extreme weight loss. For cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, it can help reduce extreme cases of nausea and vomiting.

The group said further research on the prohibited plant needs to be taken into consideration to identify its other applications in medicine. But this is being hindered by federal laws and limited resources on the legalization of more studies to be conducted.

Certainly, the recent U.S. findings can alleviate millions of AIDS and cancer patients around the world should these be proven by reliable studies.

The group still needs to present to the U.S. government solid evidence that the therapeutic effects of marijuana will not cause side effects on the patients. The optimal doses of its intake must be perfected to eliminate the notions of addiction among possible patients.

Around 124,000 doctors are members of the Philadelphia-based group, whose patients are mostly adults. The organization started operating since 1915.

Dr. David Dale, University of Washington professor of medicine and the group’s chair said marijuana use remains under a special category since there are many concerns at stake to its probable potency. But he is confident that it may pose effective and better treatments for other patients suffering from all kinds of diseases so careful evaluation must be undertaken.

Time and again, modern science has yet to be tapped. As more diseases are on the rise, better treatments must be prepared. With marijuana’s latest findings, more researches must be conducted if it really deserves to be in the list of possible remedies among the thousand ailments in the world.

Experts need to make sure about marijuana’s disadvantages will be neutralized once used in the human body. Before it will be advised for public consumption, there should be a series of tests, accounting all possible risks. We cannot just say “no” to marijuana use in medical applications if it will be the better way to treat patients. Doctors have to make safety precautions first before signaling its use for the patients worldwide.

Physical Marijuana Addiction does not exist. Mental Marijuana Addiction is an indication of more serious problems.

Physical Marijuana Addiction does not exist. This fact is the only honest way to start any article on Marijuana addiction. Former marijuana smokers stand in stark contrast to former cigarette smokers, just ask a former smoker. The marijuana smoker (or Cannabis smoker, as they are called in legal/medical circles) answer to how they stopped smoking Cannabis is generally along the lines of “I just stopped smoking Cannabis”, seems simple, because it is, marijuana is not addictive. The cigarette smoker will normally recount that it took an extraordinary amount of effort and willpower to achieve this feet, some do it cold turkey, others use everything from hypnosis, the patch, drugs like Wellbutrin, smoking cessation programs… the list is long and interestingly includes Cannabis (Medical Marijuana is indicated for addiction recovery and available in states like California for those looking for a herbal remedy).

It is important to note that medicating with Cannabis is a pleasurable experience for many, there is a small subset of users that will develop a mental marijuana addiction. In the 1994 National Comorbidity Survey, 9% of those who used marijuana became “dependent” (although that does not mean that they became daily marijuana smokers). Cannabis “dependence”, or the mental marijuana addiction rate, was actually the lowest of all substances the study reviewed.

Investigation into the phenomenon of mental marijuana addiction generally finds that the patient is actually Physically Addicted to much more harmful substances (tobacco, opiates, alcohol, caffeine) and whilst there are Marijuana addiction Treatment programs throughout the united states, investigation shows that the majority of those in Marijuana treatment facilities are not having problems quitting marijuana, rather they were caught using marijuana by law enforcement or their school and have entered treatment as an alternatives to harsher punishment.

Since the legalization of Medical Cannabis doctors have found amazing results in using Marijuana for addiction recovery. Doctors know that opiates, whilst regularly prescribed for pain management, are not only addictive but have some dangerous side effects that get worse with prolonged use. The Marijuana safety profile is outstanding and doctors in states with legal medical marijuana are regularly recommending marijuana to patients suffering from opiate addiction. Cannabis has been shown to help patients both reduce and totally eliminate their opiate intake.

Lower iron and zinc amounts have been connected with Attention Deficit Disorder. Studies also link low levels of magnesium to an increased incidence of Attention Deficit Disorder.

The medical medical marijuana discussion rages on at a nationalized level. Is it good or bad? Does it contribute to criminal offenses, or doesn’t it? These are just some of the topics being challenged. Having said that, in states where medical marijuana is allowed by the law for medicinal usage, the argument drills down to which distinct circumstances does it help minimize painfulness. Gout is one of those issues.

Based on online community posts from men and women who utilize medical marijuana and suffer from the incredibly agonizing affliction known as gout, medical marijuana affords only temporary relief from the throbbing pain, redness, and inflammation that gout brings. Practiced users often recommend an outstanding assortment of unique types of the plant (Who knew there were so many varieties?) However, the consensus stays that medical marijuana takes an individual’s thoughts off the problem more than alleviating it.

The prime suggestion is prescribed medication or over the counter pain relievers. Prescribed medication or over the counter pain relievers may help for flare ups, but in so many occasions, pharmaceutical medication have side effects running from minor to critical. Given that there is no way of predicting exactly how problematic the side effects will be, we believe that that diet adjustments and natural options are the optimal and safest solution to take care of gout.

For starters, keep clear of red meat. That is the main diet culprit, but it is by no means alone. Experts have found that it is best to keep away from all purine rich food, which cause uric acid in the body. Food items that have a high amount of purine are meats, organ meats and baked goods with yeast. Other foods to avoid are broths, herring, fish, mussels, peas, oatmeal and alcoholic drinks. Reviews also indicate that males who like beer as their adult beverage of choice have a higher possibility of getting gout than those who do not drink beer. Some specialists mention that cutting out alcohol is all it takes for gout reduction in numerous men and women.

Although these proposals deal with taking things away from you, and your diet. There are appetizing food items you can add. The preferred time-tested addition to a gout sufferer’s diet is cherries. That’s right – appetizing, juicy cherries. Individuals have been reporting the effective effects of cherries and cherry juice as a healthy treatment for gout. Another delightful addition to a gout diet is dark chocolate. Yes, dark chocolate with the focus on “dark.” Your typical chocolate bar won’t help gout pain or your waistline either. We find that combining a square of dark chocolate to hot milk and adding a modest amount of sweetener such as honey makes an awesome bedtime drink. Additionally, it is actually helpful for preventing heart disease.

While we are talking referring to waist lines, weight problems raises the chances of gout for both men and women. Research shows that close to 50 percent of individuals with gout pain are at the very least 15 percent over their appropriate body weight.

Finally, take in lots of h2o. Water and various other fluids help get rid of unwanted uric acid and also help prevent kidney stones. You will want to consume between six to eight glasses of water on a daily basis. Consume filtered water if available.

Are you suffering from chronic pain? Have the pain treatments you tried so far been inadequate in relieving or reducing the pain? If so, you might want to consider learning more about the usage of medical marijuana for the treatment of pain.

Chronic pain has reached epidemic proportions in this country. Chronic pain is often defined as pain that lasts three months or longer. Although it’s more common in older adults, anyone can experience it. Approximately 50 million people suffer from chronic pain, and another 25 million suffer from acute pain caused by surgery and accidents.

One of the main problems with chronic pain is under treatment. According to the National Chronic Pain Outreach Association, seven million cannot relieve their pain without opiate medications, and yet, only 4,000 doctors were willing to prescribe it. Because of negative publicity, erroneous views about addiction, or the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) scrutiny, doctors are afraid of losing their license. Even if you can find a doctor to prescribe opiods, since tolerance can occur over time, many doctors will not prescribe an adequate dosage to combat the pain. Tragically, living with intractable pain can lead to depression, and depression can lead to suicide.

Although I don’t advocate the use of marijuana for recreational use, it has been found beneficial in the treatment of chronic pain. In addition to it’s analgesic effects, it is an anti-inflammatory, and it can work synergystically with opiod medications. Unfortunately, although opiod medications are effective in treating the pain in the beginning, over time a tolerance can develop, and they don’t work as well. Furthermore, research has shown except for the potential damage to the lungs, it is safer than many of the legal drugs used for pain. On the basis of animal models, there is no known case of legal overdose.

Not only can marijuana treat effectively treat pain, it can also treat the nausea associated with opiod medication usage. Unlike Marinol, a synthetic form of marijuana, inhaled marijuana usually offers immediate relief because it is absorbed into the blood at a faster rate, and it contains more cabbinoids than Marinol. Furthermore, it causes less side-effects than Marinol.

Unfortunately, until recently, the United State’s government has had outdated views on marijuana. Classed a Schedule I drug, it has been illegal and considered a dangerous drug with no medical value. However, slowly, viewpoints are changing. Unfortunately, although medical marijuana is a viable alternative in the treatment of chronic pain, even if it were legalized nationwide, there would still be the biased attitudes to overcome just like with the opiates.

In 2008, medical marijuana usuage and cultivation under a doctor’s recommendation was legal in thirteen states. Furthermore, in October of 2009, the Obama Administration issued new guidelines that medical marijuana patients should not be arrested or prosecuted as long as they or their caregivers are in compliance with state laws.

Panic attacks may be caused due to different situations. Most people think that these attacks are caused due to mental and stress factors depending on our emotional strength. However, there is a point that panic disorder may also be an effect of certain food substances. Though this might be shocking news, this is a truth of course. Especially food substances, which contains a lot of marijuana more prevalently cause panic.

It is not that marijuana causes panic attacks, but marijuana has different effects on different personalities. Sometimes marijuana may reduce the heart beat rate and at other times, they may increase your heart beta rate. At most, of the times they may not have any effect either in blood flow rate.

The fact is that marijuana affects everyone differently. For one person it could calm them down, lower their heart rate, and for someone else it could increase their heart rate. It just depends on the individual person. Marijuana is one of those things that are better left alone, like alcohol. In almost everyone who consumed alcohol, his or her heart rate shoots up. This is just the body’s reaction when certain substances enter it.

Sometimes people prefer taking marijuana to subtle or alleviate their symptoms during a panic attack. However, this is not helpful. Many physicians say that marijuana is not good at times of panic attacks, because they may have side effects, which may be either short term or long term. Taking drugs is considered the least alternative to alleviate the symptoms of a panic attacks. Taking marijuana is considered not to be an alternative at all.
